The pickup and drop off location for all tours is the Darwin Convention Centre (DCC).

TOUR 1 - Activate Darwin – Walking Tour

Transport: Group will walk from Darwin Convention Centre to Darwin CBD with a guide.
What to Wear: Comfortable shoes and clothing to walk in, sun protection.
What to bring: Water for the walk.

Explore Darwin’s collection of eclectic street art and learn about our innovative heat mitigation strategies.

The team from Activate Darwin will take you on a walking tour along some of Darwin’s most colourful streets and laneways, stopping to highlight key projects like the Cavenagh Street shade structure and Austin Lane enhancements. See the Civic and State Square developments and how they’re helping to cool, green and activate Darwin.

TOUR 2 - Darwin Aquaculture Centre Tour

Darwin Acquaculture Centre

Time: 9am – 12pm
Refreshments: Morning tea boxes & water provided on arrival for the trip.
Cost: $55 per person
Transport: Bus from Darwin Convention Centre (approx. 40 minute drive)
What to Wear: People must wear enclosed shoes and have not visited another aquaculture facility or seafood processing area that day, or previous day unless they’ve showered and washed shoes and clothes.
What to bring: Hat & sun protection.

Visit the Darwin Aquaculture Centre to learn about current research projects.  

The Darwin Aquaculture Centre (DAC) has undertaken a range of research and development projects on pearl oysters, tropical oysters, sea cucumbers, giant clams, prawns, barramundi, blue fin tuna, mud crabs, reef fish, copepods, rotifers, algae, and a number of disease investigations in the 28 years since it was established.
The research arm of the DAC is currently working on a four year, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) funded project entitled, 'Sea ranching and pond culture of sandfish (Holothuria scabra) in Asia-Pacific - Trial of sea ranching of sandfish in an Australian Indigenous community'. This project is undertaken in collaboration with the Warruwi Community on Goulburn Island and The WorldFish Center partners in Vietnam and the Philippines.

The DAC also manages research programs to develop giant clam and tropical oyster farming methods suitable for remote Indigenous communities. This includes developing hatchery techniques to produce oysters and clams and addressing constraints facing grow out of these species in remote NT regions.

TOUR 3 - Aboriginal Bush Traders (ABT) – Tasting Plate and Gallery Tour

What to Wear: Casual and comfortable

Bush food has been sustaining Indigenous Australians for centuries, and now it is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Alongside the bush food-inspired menu at the ABT café, the team has also produced a tasting plate to showcase a variety of bush food ingredients. 
This experience also includes bush spice samples, and a tour of the gallery and current exhibitions on display.

Breakfast menu example: egg and bacon pie, bush food granola, protein ball, juice, and coffee. Vegetarian options are available on request. 
Elements are seasonal, all featuring key bush food ingredients that can be sourced in the NT, and therefore these menus are subject to change.

GALA DINNER – Tuesday 25 July 2023
