About the Speaker

Dr Anna Hayes is a senior lecturer in Politics and International Relations at James Cook University and an Honorary Research Fellow at the East Asia Security Centre, a collaborative research enterprise between Bond University, China Foreign Affairs University and the University of New Haven. Anna specialises in traditional and non-traditional threats to security, focusing on the People’s Republic of China, as well as the implications of increasing Sino-U.S. strategic competition for the Indo-Pacific region. She recently co-edited 'The Chinese in Papua New Guinea: Past, Present and Future,' ANU Press (2024), with Professor Rosita Henry and Dr Michael Wood.
