Cossack is also the site of the CRC for Developing Northern Australia (CRCNA) Tropical Rock Oyster project that is developing a new premium aquaculture product. The pristine waters of Northern Australia provide ideal conditions to expand Northern Australia’s aquaculture industry. Tropical Rock Oysters provide a culturally appropriate, sustainable and economic industry for remote regions and First Nations communities, utilising a native species which has been traditionally harvested for millennia. CRCNA’s industry partner, Maxima Pearling Company are researching optimum oyster hatchery techniques at Cossack in the Dampier Archipelago with oyster lines located a short distance and diagonally opposite the Cossack boat ramp and café.
