The chairman of the Darwin Port inquiry says there are plenty of companies showing an interest in leasing northern Australia’s busiest port.
The Northern Territory Government is currently investigating the pros and cons of privatising the Darwin Port, through a parliamentary committee being chaired by the member for Blain and former stevedore, Nathan Barrett.
He said about 30 different companies had “put their hand up” for potentially taking charge of the port.
“There’s been a lot of interest,” he said.
“But remember, we’re not chasing the highest bidder, we’re looking for the right partner.
“We need the right partner, someone who can develop business in the Northern Territory and work with businesses here and overseas to bring it all together and grow the port.”
