Mark Annandale, Director of Landroc will present at the Developing Northern Australia Conference being held in Townsville 20-22 July 2015. The Association for Sustainability in Business Inc will host the Conference to ensure Business, Academics, NGOs, Community Groups and all tiers of Government have the opportunity to address topics that are relevant to the future plans of Northern Australia.

Speaker Bio: Mark is a senior consultant specialising in sustainable development, community forestry, environmental management, and cultural heritage management. An environmental scientist and community forestry specialist, Mark has Australian and international experience and works closely with private, public and NGO sector clients.

Mark has 20 years’ experience in developing environmental management, natural resource management and rehabilitation strategies including senior roles in community relations, engaging with Indigenous communities, cross cultural communication, cultural heritage management and leading negotiations between Indigenous communities and project proponents.

Presentation Overview: The mining sector provides an opportunity to develop sustainable community forestry through
natural forest salvage prior to mine clearing and mine rehabilitation based plantations. Wider
community benefits may be gained through forestry based regional economic development and

The mining sector provides for many opportunities in support of community forestry including;
salvage harvest of high value timber ahead of mine clearing operations treatment of mining lease
natural forest and old mine rehabilitation areas to enhance forest production value adding of timber
and non-timber products community forestry plantations (enrichment, mixed species and
monoculture) for mine rehabilitation environmental services for management of mining lease areas
(fire, weeds).
